Engelberg, Swizerland
Monkey Button
While in Europe, I took a trip to Engelberg, Swizerland with my study-abroad group, IES. I've forgotten the exact name of the mountain, but the whole area was one big mountain, really. Although it was late in the season, there was still snow covering everything. I want to say 30 feet, but the guide might have said 30 meters. No matter what, there was a lot of snow.

The photos in this gallery are among my favorites of the trip, and probably some of the better ones I took while in Europe. Most of all, I'm glad I caught the gondola going overhead. The scene of a tiny speck of the compartment suspended over the ground is quite dramatic to me. I didn't ride that one in particular, but others up the mountain. I'll never forget the steep drop one of the tracks had. For someone who hates rollercoasters, it was a great incentive to walk the rest of the way.

The house buried in snow is also one of my better shots from that era, and I used it for the jurying-in process for the Marblehead Arts Association. I think everyone has heard a story about being stuck in a cabin due to snow, and I suppose it could happen. Parhaps that's why the door is there in the attic.
